Roland Park Presbyterian, 2020

The church is committed to creating a landscape that welcomes the community of people and animals into its delightful space!

For several years, Roland Park Presbyterian has been working to make their grounds more open and accessible to the surrounding community, eliminating the dense and forbidding non-native shrub layer that included privet. In addition to creating a space that will have perches to sit, observe, and enjoy, the church is devoted to building a biodiverse habitat that supports our native bees, butterflies, and birds. In the first wave of plantings, two red-berried hawthorns have been planted with bayberry, fothergilla, virginia sweetspire, and chokeberry. Both the chokeberry and the hawthorns have berries that are high in fat and protein and important late-winter food sources for birds. A perennial border is in the works for the spring of 2021!
