Deepdene, ongoing
Street names can tell us a lot about a site’s topographic history. A dene is dense narrow wooded valley of a small river. This dene is by Stony Run steam and the front yard fits into the woodland edge habitat and provides fertile ground for the growing of ferns, woodland asters, wreath goldenrods, sedges, mountain laurels, hydrangeas (both oak leaf and arborescens), dogwoods and redbuds.

The backyard is full sun and perfectly suited to a pocket prairie and a small vegetable garden. The native plants are visited regularly by cardinals, mockingbirds, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, bluejays, goldfinches and an abundance of insects and butterflies.
